welcome back! since it's just after the holidays, and i'm way behind on my reading, there's just one reading for you today. (so, dad, you certainly can find the time to read it. it's even quite short!)

Well, the obvious and first debate that comes to mind is that of freedom of speech within the market. That the power is ultimately with the consumers, if it's offensive enough we, as a whole, should/will stop buying those papers and they'll either go under or change their content as a result. Which is somewhat true. But, on the other hand, the media itself is programmed to tell us what we want. So that's a potentially flawed line of thinking. What's more, what if 60% of the consumers love that stuff and buy it up, supporting and promoting it thusly, and 40% find it deeply offensive? Let's say you have three black kids at your otherwise white school, is it okay to teach racist lines of thought because the majority are cool with it?

Hmm.
