50 shades of grey didn't cause this assault. but it sure as fuck didn't do anything to help dismantle the world of rape culture and the dehumanization of women. it sure as fuck didn't do anything to help women gain power and autonomy over their bodies and their lives. it sure as fuck didn't do anything to help men understand consent. if you already live in a world where you don't believe that women can or will tell you what they want (bluuuurred lines, amirite?), where you already feel you are owed things from women, 50 shades of grey is just another thing whispering (or shouting...) 'it's cool, bro. she wants it. you just gotta show her...'. 50 shades of grey didn't cause this truly heinous and horrifying assault. but it joined on in with everything else that was already cheering this asshole on, and it gave him a high-five and a douchey smile and said 'yeah, man. alright!'
