saved my life

hi i'm still alive! it is summer and life is outside and i am a bit sunburned and things are fine and good. also it is pride week!!

i wanna magic the time space continuum and be the little girl in 'fun house' back in my musical-theatre-baby days. how great is this?! a musical about a baby lesbian based on a graphic novel?! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

happy monday, swaggerers, wearers of dungarees.

try harder, do better

today's lgbtq update is unfortunately from my own city, where customs agents at pearson act like real clueless jerks when dealing with a transgender woman. come on! do better! ugh.

* trans woman held in a male-only facility after being detained at pearson airport for an expired visa. (and then the internet helps and she is moved to a female jail.)

how is it so hard to use the right pronouns?! at very least. it sure doesn't seem very hard. to me. but, ya know, whateves. meanwhile. better things:

* blake brockington wins homecoming king

* barneys launches spring campaign featuring transgender models

let us all try harder, like olympians.

{canada's dara howell, photo by cameron spencer for getty images by way of canada.com}

OLYMPICSOLYMPICS! i always go in thinking i love them the most, and then i realize i have vastly underestimated that love, i love them more than most, more more more. OLYMPICS I LOVE YOU! i know my wussy joints would never have survived it, but man i wish i'd known about ski slopestyle as a youngster...

here's your daily gay!

* 2012 british women's soccer captain and arsenal ladies defensive player casey stone comes out

* lesbian e-cards for valentines!

* best lgbt films of all time (of which i have seen way fewer than i hoped. something to work on.)

* fit for a femme (cuz you know i love a style blog)

go forth and olymp, friends! that is a verb i just made.

sml (olympics edition)

well! it sure didn't take long for today to be supergreat for LGBTQ sports news. it was pretty early in the day that this lil' thing popped up in my twitterfeed:

* top nfl prospect michael sam comes out

NICE ONE! so awesome. high fives all around.

the olympics have been rocking my socks bigtime all weekend. holy hell slopestyle is bonkers-bread. never would've guessed i'd love it SO MUCH. i wanna go skiing now so so so so bad... who wants to kick it to the mountains for a weekend?! ANYONE?!

so let's counter-act the gazillion hours i dedicated to sochi so far. hopefully you've had a second to check out some of the pieces i've been retweeting around the olympics and anti-gay laws. check them out. and also. whoop. go on:

* 'happy' adapted into pro-gay video for putin

* gays in kenya protest against uganda's anit-homosexuality bill

* el salvador parliament rejects constitutional ban on same-sex marriage

* queer russia

* just everything here on outsports, so much good stuff

GOOOOLLLLLLDDD!!!!
happy monday, olympians!

two-man luge

 the olympics are here. and i am mega conflicted. i love the olympics. they're one of my most favouritest things in the world and they fill me with just insane amounts of joy. but. of course. i also am furious with the shit-bag of human rights that russia is carting around. i believe wholeheartedly in LGBT rights and equality, and the hateful stance that russia takes is beyond nauseating and heartbreaking. i don't want to support russia! (also i feel real real sorry for russians. like. just the regular people. shit does NOT sound good there all around...) but i DO want to support the athletes from all over the world and the amazing things they do.

so i'm making an effort to take in and put out as much pro-gay content as i possibly can for the run of the games. feel free to join in! send me things you think i should read and/or share. let's celebrate the freedoms that exist and call out the failings. let's be cray vocal. it is a small something, but it is something.
