this grimastimes movie watching is tough! there is just so much going on it is hard to find time for ALL THE MOVIES! but don't worry. there is house-cleaning time, decorating time, wrapping time, baking time. and those times have gotten me a long way. tada!!
by far the best part was the day i spent watching WITH ms melanie & gretcheroo.
and what remains, then?
jingle all the way - which i am dreading...
the family stone
the grinch who stole christmas - which probs i should watch with the family
8 women - which i know nothing about
die hard
a christmas story
okay, bye! grimastime! gotta go!!

hi. all i wanna do is listen to rihanna and an orchestra.
but also, there are things to read about wearing makeup like a deviant. pour it up, pour it up:
* how to be a ladyperson at the holidays
but all of this is really just to make you happy before you watch this next video. because this one hurts. it is powerful as hell. all we wanna do is take the chains off.

advent-ure!!!
I AM NOT EVEN SORRY ABOUT THE TERRIBLE PUN TITLE!
hi guys, it is advent, and you know what that means: we can listen to christmas music WITH LYRICS even.
AND.
since espooky october was such a good time, we're bringing back the movie challenge!!!
mad props to mel who is home-with-babe and suggested the grimas movie 2014 spectacular. we encourage you to watch along with us. she made the list, i made the calendar. print them off! put them up in your offices and kitchens! holy cow, how fun?!
the rules are: mostly do whatever you want, have fun, it is GRIMAS TIME! mel and me will attempt to watch movies more or less on the same schedule, but also we will have a MEGA WATCHING DAY EXTRAVAGANZA mid-month and get a bunch in together. ooo eee oooooo i am so stoked.
tonight i watched miracle on 34th street (original), which mel has also watched. she's one up on me with home alone.
HERE! WE! GO!!!

today i read
{...}
i was a sensitive kid, am a sensitive adult.
rioting never made sense to me. destroying the place where you live - i never understood that rage and recklessness.
learning about the riots of 1968, although i understood the reasons, i could never get my head around the acts. the thought of it filled me with terror.
i am no longer afraid of the rioters.
nothing scares me more than guns except for white men.
i am no longer confused by the burning down of cities.

saved my life
duuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhh it's yoncé.
(i could have put up a video of me & lissa singing 'firework' or 'like a prayer' or 'scrubs' or 'we can't stop'... but i have a feeling that you had to be there to experience the true epic joy that was pouring out our faces... also no one filmed it. so lucky you. god bless that tiny karaoke room with incongruous videos of completely random stuff.)
i wanna be the redhead with the bow top. also jay-z doing a cameo-roll-through makes me like him WAY more that i used to.
happy monday, knee pad dancers!

a friend texted me yesterday, while i was out running work errands, that he was crying over the sentencing in the rehtaeh parsons case.
remember her? rehtaeh. we aren't supposed to use her name. remember? remember how well reporting went for her? remember that there was a photograph of her rape, and still she was blamed and shamed and doubted and mocked? remember how cruel the world was to her? remember how she did not survive it? remember how we grieved when she died?
{rehtaeh's father, delivering the victim impact statement yesterday as reported by the cbc}
'why wouldn't a person report an assault?'
'we are having a watershed moment!'
i don't know what justice would look like, exactly. i don't. but i know this isn't it. i don't like prison as a catch-all. but i want something. i want something better than this. a system that rips a girl to shreds when she has already been broken apart.
the system is broken. the system is sick and rotting at its core.
'why wouldn't a person report an assault?'
'we are having a watershed moment!'
forgive me if i am not a believer. forgive me if i am too tired, even, to cry for her again. and for the ones who never got brought out into the public eye, whose assaults stayed 'community matters', who will never even come close to this non-justice-justice, to being heard and believed and cared for.
happy friday, don't forget.
